Shirley McVey Dip. Couns. MBACP IPT
Counsellor — Accredited Interpersonal Psychotherapist
I offer a confidential facilitative therapy to establish a relationship with my clients where they may face their anxieties and confusion.
I believe that given the right conditions i.e. an empathic, non-judgemental open and honest environment then clients are able to take more control and responsibility for their behaviour and move forward in a positive way.
In this climate clients can begin to get in touch with their own wisdom and capacity for self understanding. By doing this then they can hope to move beyond their experiences and have the freedom to be true to their own feelings and values.

Experience
I am a qualified Person Centred Counsellor for eleven years and two years ago became an Accredited Interpersonal Therapist.
I have previously worked in different settings providing therapy including the NHS, at a Women’s Refuge and at an Addictions Hub. I have experience of working with cancer patients and their families. I have also run bereavement groups to improve social support for clients who are struggling with the loss of a loved one.
The various settings have presented a mix of clients, all with their own personal needs from therapy. I offer a deep commitment to work alongside my clients by facilitating them to deal with life’s challenges.
